Cuddle Up Body Pillow
There is more to a good night’s sleep then just going to bed early, you need to have the right support for your body and spine. Experts say that the better your spine is supported during your sleep, the more relaxed and rested you will feel in the mornings. This means letting your spine relax into its natural curves, regardless of your preferred sleeping position. Sleeping position will have a lot to do with the shape and number of pillows that you have, but so will personal preference. When you change your pillows out every twelve to twenty four months it is a good idea to reevaluate how your current system is working for you.
If you usually sleep on your back then you might notice that your neck and back are sore in the mornings. This may be because you do not have the proper support for your whole spine. It is recommended that you have a pillow supporting your head that allows for your neck to be in a position that is not craned too far forward or too far back. Contoured pillows are the easiest to find to meet this criteria. It is also recommended that you have some support under your knees to encourage the proper curves in your spine. Conversely, if you generally sleep on your stomach then it is recommended that you have little to no pillow under your head. Sleeping on your front can cause your spine to settle uncomfortably and a pillow under your stomach may help you sleep more comfortably in this position.
Arguably the most popular way to sleep is on your side. This can create pressure points that are most easily corrected with the use of a body pillow or a few smaller ones. You should insert pillows in any gaps that are between your body and the mattress as well as have one between your knees to help with hip and back health. Expecting mothers should have a pillow or cushion under the belly to help with comfort and support while sleeping. If you are like most side sleepers then you may want to invest in a body pillow that will offer you ideal body support and move with you as you roll and shift.
Once you have determined what your needs are for support, it is time to choose the shape and number of pillows that you want to use. You can find body pillows in all kinds of shapes to provide varying degrees of comfort and support. You can also find cushions designed for specific purposes that may work better for your needs. Finding a style that looks comfortable is just the first step though, and you should always try out different configurations before you make your decision.
Once you know how many of what shaped pillows you should use for ideal comfort and support, it is time to make your final decision. Sometimes you will still be left with a plethora of choices that you will want to narrow down by stuffing material, wash ability, or other criteria. It is recommended that you replace your pillows every year or two because they will eventually break down and start to hold more contaminates and allergens that will not wash out.
